Michigan’s Sherrone Moore says Justice Haynes should be ready to face Washington

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Justice Haynes’ streak of five games with over 100 yards rushing came to a screeching halt on Saturday, when the junior appeared to have injured his torso at some point against USC in the LA Memorial Coliseum.

Haynes continued playing for a small stretch, but then went to the locker room for evaluation and treatment. He came back out in uniform shortly after the start of the second half, but he didn’t play a single snap in that span. After the game, head coach Sherrone Moore said that Haynes could have returned, but the Wolverines held him out for precautionary reasons.

On Monday, Moore updated Haynes’ status, noting that it looks like he’ll be a full go for Washington this week.

“Good. He was better yesterday, so we’ll see as the week goes,” Moore said. “But feel good about it.”

In Haynes’ stead, redshirt freshman Jordan Marshall got some run, with 14 carries for 51 yards. Despite the loss to the Trojans, Moore was pleased with what he saw from the emerging tailback — especially considering he was supposed to be 1B to Haynes’ 1A, but the season has somewhat changed those expectations as it’s progressed.

“Yeah, he did good,” Moore said. “I thought he ran hard, ran physical, made plays when they were needed, and did a great job in pass protection. So continue to just take the next load and be the next guy up.”

Fans will get an opportunity to see whoever lines up at running back on Saturday when the Wolverines host Washington for a noon EDT kickoff at The Big House. The game will be broadcast live on Fox.
