Michigan storm outlook. Tornadoes, hail, flooding as possible threats

The weather forecast shows a wet, stormy and warm week for Michigan. Thunderstorms are expected to develop Monday night, April 13, as last on and off through Thursday, April 16. Flooding, lightning, large hail, possible tornadoes and strong winds are the main threats.

Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are forecast to develop as early as Monday night, April 13, and intensify heading into Tuesday, April 14. The Lower Peninsula has the greatest risk for severe conditions.

As of Monday, April 13, numerous flood or flash flood warnings and advisories are in place for the current river overflow combined with the incoming heavy rain. The entire northern Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula is under a flood watch.

By Thursday, April 16, Michigan is estimated to get at most 2.8 inches of rain mainly in the Lower Peninsula, according to the National Weather Service’s Probabilistic Precipitation Portal.

In addition to heavy rain, an isolated tornado, 60 mph wind gusts and 1-inch hail is possible.

Temperatures statewide will be above-average through the week.

In the southern Lower Peninsula, highs mainly range in the 60s-70s. Kalamazoo is forecast to see the warmest high of 80 degrees on Tuesday, April 14. In the northern Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula, high range in the 50s-60s.
