Michigan State women's basketball beats Rutgers for first Big Ten win

Michigan State women’s basketball has officially secured their first Big Ten win of the 2025-26 season. The Spartans took down Rutgers, 70-64 on Sunday afternoon, earning the victory.

Welcoming Rutgers into the Breslin Center, the Scarlet Knights gave the Spartans a tough affair. After MSU fell to Wisconsin earlier this month to open Big Ten play, the team got the much needed start to conference play. The game featured three ties and 10 lead changes, but the closely contested affair stayed in favor of MSU.

The Spartans charge was led by Rashunda Jones with 14 points, while Ines Sotelo had 12 points and Kennedy Blair had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Big Ten play for the Spartans will continue at the turn of the new year with a trip to Bloomington for a game against Indiana, who currently sits at 11-2 (0-1 B1G) on the season.
