What feels like sloppy play is good defense from both teams

Q2, 4:10: Michigan State 29, Oklahoma 31.

After two back-to-back buckets from the Oklahoma Sooners, Vanslooten was blocked by Beers and the energy felt like it was changing in Sacramento.

MSU, although down, seemed to have weathered the storm with Emma Shumate taking a key charge before shooting a 24-foot three pointer at the 5:34 mark.

Beers also made a 16-foot jumper off a Chavez assist at the 4:51 mark to put the Sooners up two.

MSU up early against OU

End of Q1: Michigan State 21, Oklahoma 16.

Shooting woes were the theme of the first quarter for MSU’s last matchup against Colorado.

This game, they are shooting significantly better, around 53% from the field, opposed to their 35% to end the first Friday night.

Jones is currently leading the Spartans in scoring with nine points. Vanslooten has also contributed four.

Both Beers and Brook for OU have a combined 10 points.

Vanslooten, Beers matchup

Both Vanslooten and Beers are the talk of the game as both bigs played one another in the 2022 McDonald’s All-American game and four other times at previous schools.

They both also played for Team USA in the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.

A quick, competitive start for both OU and MSU

Q1, 5:00: Michigan State 11, Oklahoma 10.

Michigan State, who started a different lineup this game since their last timeout have seemed to match both OU’s size and speed so far this game.

At the 5:09 mark, Chavez received an outlet pass after a Verhulst steal and attempted to make a fast break layup before being blocked by MSU’s VanSlooten,
