Michigan State has reportedly found its next athletic director.
ESPN insider Pete Thamel reported on Monday morning that Michigan State is finalizing a deal to make Western Michigan athletic director Dan Bartholomae its next athletic director. Thamel reported the deal is in the final stages with no official announcement from the school yet at the publishing of this post.
Bartholomae took over as the Western Michigan athletic director in January of 2022, and has experienced a large amount of success in his four-plus years with the school. In the last two seasons, Western Michigan won a national championship in hockey and the Mid-American Conference championship in football. According to Thamel, Bartholomae has also led Western Michigan to “record-breaking” fundraising during his time with the Broncos.
Former Michigan State athletic director J Batt left after one year with the school for the same role at Kentucky during the summer. Shortly after Batt’s departure, Bartholomae emerged as a top candidate to replace him at Michigan State, and that now appears to be reality.
