Michigan gas prices jump 19 cents from last week, AAA says

The average price of gasoline in Michigan is up 19 cents from last week, AAA-The Auto Group announced Monday.

State motorists pay an average of $4.02 per gallon for regular unleaded, 3 cents cheaper than a month ago, but 97 cents more than this time last year, the agency said. The highest recorded average gasoline price in Michigan was $5.22 per gallon in June 2022, according to AAA.

The average price for a full 15-gallon tank of gas in Michigan jumped about $9 this week from the highest prices last year in August 2025, AAA reported.

The average price of gasoline in Metro Detroit saw a greater rise, jumping about 23 cents per gallon from last week’s average, and 99 cents more than the same period last year, AAA said.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that gasoline demand dropped from 9.08 million barrels per day to 9.05 million, according to AAA.

“Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 232.9 million barrels to 228.4 million,” the agency said. “Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10.1 million barrels per day.”

The most expensive per-gallon gasoline prices in Michigan were in Marquette at $4.09, Metro Detroit at $4.07, and Ann Arbor at $4.04.

The least expensive averages were reported in Grand Rapids, Benton Harbor and Flint, all at $3.97 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gasoline in Metro Detroit on Monday was $3.45 per gallon at a Meijer store at 29585 Mound in Warren; a Sheetz store in Warren at 31925 Van Dyke at $3.53 per gallon; and a Marathon gas station at 9121 Allen Road in Allen Park at $3.55 per gallon.
