Michigan football has just one more official visit weekend left, and then it will start to reap the benefits. With prospects having seen the breadth of schools that have courted them, many will start to whittle down their lists of suitors even further. And some will go so far as to make verbal commitments.
There are several key players who the Wolverines are targeting that appear to be leaning maize and blue, and one of them is 2026 Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star wide receiver Travis Johnson. Rated highest by ESPN, which has him as the No. 109 player in the country, regardless of position, Johnson visited this past weekend. It went so well that all of the recruiting sites started putting in predictions that he will end up wearing a winged helmet.
But when will the maize and blue know?
On Wednesday, Johnson announced that he will be making his commitment on July 4, choosing between Michigan, Virginia Tech, Penn State, South Carolina, and Indiana.
Johnson has one official visit left, to hometown school Virginia Tech. The Wolverines currently have one wide receiver pledge in 2026 Dallas (Tx.) Parish Episcopal three-star Jaylen Pile.
Michigan is also in the thick of it with Mansfield (Tx.) four-star Zion Robinson and is hosting Miami (Fla.) Northwestern five-star Calvin Russell this upcoming weekend.
