Michigan basketball has landed a reinforcement for the future.
Joseph Hartman, a four-star class of 2026 shooting guard out of Gainesville, Florida (The Rock School), pledged to join the Wolverines, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the Free Press on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Hartman, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound prospect, is rated the No. 10 shooting guard in the nation, No. 12 player in Florida and No. 79 prospect overall in the class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Hartman posted a two-minute video on social media announcing his commitment.
“The process. #committed,” he wrote.
“Hartman is built like a strong-bodied wing, but has some big guard type skills,” wrote 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein in a scouting report after watching him in July. “He’s a good ball-handler and passer, and can even operate as a jumbo initiator at times. He utilizes his size and strength to take smaller defenders into the mid-post.
“He can also space the floor as a spot-up shooting threat, knocking down 44% of his threes, on over 4 attempts per game, during the 3SSB season.”
Hartman received his U-M offer near the end of July and chose the Wolverines over programs including Minnesota, Iowa and Butler. He has an official visit to Ann Arbor scheduled for this upcoming weekend.
Hartman is now the fourth high school product in the current senior class committed to coach Dusty May’s program and the third in the past month.
He joins international prospect Marcus Moller, four-star stretch four Quinn Costello and three-star wing Malachi Brown.
