LANSING — The owners of The Green Door are searching for a new owner to take over the beloved music venue off East Michigan Avenue.
In an announcement posted to the venue’s Facebook page on June 23, co-owner Jen Costigan said after 34 years at The Green Door “it is time I hang up my Captains hat. It has been an honor to be at the helm for over 3 decades.”
Costigan and business partner Jon Woolston hope to sell the venue to someone willing to “continue carrying the torch for this ICONIC music venue,” the post said.
After June 28, The Green Door Bar & Grill will close on Friday and Saturday “for live entertainment for the rest of the summer,” it said. “We will remain open on Thursdays, giving the MiLife Sports Club and Jason White DJ & Karaoke a home for the rest of the summer.”
Costigan didn’t immediately respond to messages and an email on Tuesday.

The Green Door has been a mainstay in Lansing since the mid-1960s, when it opened as a restaurant called The Green Door Lounge. The business eventually transitioned to a music venue, hosting bands and musicians in several genres over the years.
On June 28, The Green Door will host Big Willy Band and Root Doctor with Freddie Cunningham, said the post.
“Thank you to my friends, co-workers, and employees through the decades,” Costigan said in her post. “You will always be family to me. I will never forget any of you. Thank you to the many musicians and bands that have graced our stage through the years. You will always hold a part of my heart. I will never forget you. And of course, the best customers EVER ! Most of you have become GD familia! I will never forget you.”
