Owning an entire island is rare. Owning four is rarer still.
The property at 14851 E Burnt Island Road in Drummond Island is listed for $2.3 million by Sam DeCamp of Gaslight Group Properties. It includes Burnt, Wilson, Claw and Harris islands across 520 acres, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and 2,131 square feet on Burnt Island, the largest of the four.
The islands sit along the St. Marys River and Potagannissing Bay near Michigan’s northern border, so close that Canada is within reach.
“It’s right up at the border. You have to go up the north side of the island, and you go a little ways, and you’re in Canadian waters,” said Anna DeCamp, real estate agent with Gaslight Group Properties.
Most of the 520 acres is protected under a conservation easement with the Little Traverse Conservancy, though about 100 acres and the shoreline remain open to explore. DeCamp said the protection “provides a lot of peace, quiet and protection.”
The home, on a southern point of Burnt Island, was remodeled in 2017 and 2018 and offers 270 degrees of water views, according to its listing. The property can only be reached by boat or plane, about 20 to 30 minutes from DeTour Village.
Wildlife is abundant. Loons, fox kits, otters, beavers, coyotes, deer and sandhill cranes are commonly spotted, and Great Lakes freighters can be seen passing by, its listing says.
“They have loons on each side just calling to each other. It’s such a wonderful sound to hear that loon-to-loon call through the windows,” DeCamp said, adding that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see multiple fox kits playing around the deck.
The property is sold, turnkey. A truck, Kubota tractor, brush hog, lawn mower and two boats are included, according to the listing.
Two docks and breakwalls, rebuilt in 2022 and 2023, connect to a boat slip in DeTour Village.
Inside, the kitchen and dining area span more than 600 square feet, and the living room offers over 350 square feet of space. The home has a wood-burning fireplace and sauna.
