The action will soon begin at high school football fields in Greater Lansing and across the state.
And the Michigan High School Athletic Association football schedule includes a number of notable matchups between area programs.

Here’s a look at 10 games of note to check out featuring some of the area’s top players and teams with high expectations.
Haslett at DeWitt
When: Week 1 / 7 p.m. Aug. 28
What to know: This matchup features two rivals squaring off and also two of the area’s top talents and Division I commits in DeWitt’s Traverse Moore (Central Michigan) and Haslett’s Kory Amachree (Kansas). Both teams also reached the MHSAA state playoffs last season.
Mason at DeWitt
When: Week 2 / 7 p.m. Sept. 5
What to know: Both Mason and DeWitt reached the Division 3 state semifinals in 2024 and enter 2025 with the top two win totals in Greater Lansing over the last five seasons. This is the third straight season the two programs will meet with the road team prevailing in each instance. Mason won the 2023 matchup and DeWitt won in 2024.
Portland St. Patrick at Morrice
When: Week 2 / 7 p.m. Sept. 5
What to know: Portland St. Patrick and Morice have been the most successful 8-man programs in the area since 2020. They split their two meetings in 2024 with St. Patrick winning in the regular season before Morrice won the playoff matchup on its way to a Division 2 state runner-up finish.
Portland at Olivet
When: Week 3 / 7 p.m. Sept. 12
What to know: Portland and Olivet have been perennial playoff teams and were the top two finishers in the CAAC White in 2024. Portland has dominated both meetings since Olivet joined the CAAC White in 2023 but the programs played tight playoff games in 2021 and 2022.
Haslett at Mason
When: Week 4 / 7 p.m. Sept. 19
What to know: Mason and Haslett were the top two teams in the CAAC Red in 2024. Mason prevailed in overtime in the 2024 meeting between the programs on its way to a sixth straight league title.
East Lansing at DeWitt
When: Week 5 / 7 p.m. Sept. 26
What to know: East Lansing and DeWitt have been the top teams in the CAAC Blue the past two seasons with East Lansing taking the title in 2023 and DeWitt winning in 2024. Both programs reached the state semifinals and captured league titles last fall..
Lansing Catholic at Portland
When: Week 6 / 7 p.m. Oct. 3
What to know: These programs have had the most postseason success of CAAC White teams. Lansing Catholic was the Division 6 runner-up last season, while Portland owns the third-most wins in the area since 2020 and reached the Division 4 state semis in 2023.
Fowler at Pewamo-Westphalia
When: Week 7 / 7 p.m. Oct. 10
What to know: These programs have captured the last two outright CMAC titles with Fowler being the reigning league champion and P-W capturing the crown in 2023. Two of the last three meetings have been decided by four points or less.
Ithaca at Fowler
When: Week 8 / 7 p.m. Oct. 17
What to know: These programs have been among the most successful small schools in the area and both had unbeaten regular seasons in 2024 while capturing league titles. Fowler has won two of the last three CMAC titles and Ithaca has captured 16 straight league championships.
Lansing Catholic at Pewamo-Westphalia
When: Week 9 / 7 p.m. Oct. 24
What to know: These perennial playoff programs have annually played to conclude the regular season the past few season with Lansing Catholic earning a tight 35-34 win in 2024. These are the last two area programs to win state titles with each capturing their last crown in 2021.
