CHEBOYGAN – The final round of the Northern Michigan Open should be a dandy.
During Saturday’s opening round of the 78th annual Open at the Cheboygan Golf & Country Club, several players put themselves in a solid position to take home the championship flight title, which will be decided in Sunday’s final round.
Holding a one-shot lead is Cheboygan native and current University of Oklahoma golfer PJ Maybank III, who posted a 3-under 67 on Saturday, while Indian River’s Jon Micoff — the 2024 Open champion — fired a 2-under 68. Also in the mix are Zach Koerner (69) and Zack Knoll (70), who will both play in the final group with Maybank and Micoff on Sunday. Kasey Hocquard (71), Kyle Parsons (71), Justin Brandt (71) and Earl Parsons (72), all former Open champions, will compete in the second-to-last pairing.
