Battle Creek Police are investigating a felonious assault involving a firearm following an incident between a mother and son on Cherry Street Tuesday, Aug. 4.Officers arrived in the 200 block of Cherry Street, shortly before 11 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, following a report of a man with a gun. A 43-year-old woman said her 27-year-old son had entered her bedroom and threatened her with a handgun.According to the woman, her son pointed the gun at her and shot one round before fleeing from the home. The victim was not struck by the gunfire and she proceeded to report the incident by calling 911, BCPD said in an Aug. 10 news release.Patrol officers attempted to locate the suspect, with assistance from the BCPD K-9 Unit and Drone Unit. During the search, the K-9 unit located a firearm believed to have been used in the assault. Further investigation revealed that the firearm had previously been reported stolen through the Michigan State Police Marshall Post.The suspect was not located; however, investigators have submitted charges to the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office for review.At this time, the incident is believed to be isolated in nature, and BCPD does not believe there is an immediate threat to the public.
