CHEBOYGAN — A fire at a residence in Benton Township on Tuesday, May 6 has left a man with injuries that required him to be airlifted to a hospital in Grand Rapids.
Alverno Fire Department Chief Ron Fenlon said an official from the Cheboygan Fire Department was in the neighborhood of South River Road and Addison Drive when he heard the call and was on the scene shortly before 8 a.m.
Fenlon said his firefighters arrived minutes later to find a home engulfed in flames.
“There was one victim at the scene. That subject was transported to Petoskey and then airlifted to Butterworth in Grand Rapids. The Alverno Fire Department asked for assistance from the Inverness Fire Department and the City of Cheboygan Fire Department,” he said.
The injured adult man lived in the house. There were no other residents in the home when his department arrived, said Fenlon. The home is a total loss.
“(The cause of the fire) is under investigation by myself and the state fire marshal,” Fenlon said.
