Learn all about earthworms with Earth Week Plus program

Naturalist Eowyn Bates will unearth the truth about earthworms and the role they play in the local environment during an upcoming Earth Week Plus Adventure called “‘Not so Nice,’ Earthworm Invaders!”

The program is set to take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 23. Participants will meet at Alpena State Road. The meeting spot is on the right before the stream crossing, guests should watch for event signs.

According to Earth Week Plus, the program will include information about how North America’s native earthworms were killed off during the Ice Age, what “duff” is, and about how European settlers brought invasive worms with them. The group will explore two areas along Alpena State Road — one with worms and one without — to look for differences.

The program is free and suitable for all ages. For more information, visit earthweekplus.org.
