Public voting for Michigan’s “I voted” sticker contest is underway through the end of June with 90 options from which this year’s finalists will be chosen.
Voting opened on June 1 with Michigan residents now able to choose their three favorite “I voted” sticker designs in each of the three categories: elementary/middle school (grades K-8), high school (grades 9-12) and residents of all ages.
The semifinalists were chosen by the Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force, students appointed by the Michigan Secretary of State who aim to improve youth voter engagement and civic participation at higher education institutions in Michigan, Benson’s office said.
The Secretary of State received 2,095 submissions, which were narrowed the choices down to 90, 30 in each category.
Michigan animals feature prominently in the choices, including deer, birds, fish, beavers and frogs, and a seal and a rubber ducky. Other designs feature Rosie the Riveter, George Washington, orange construction barrels, license plates and a variety of Michigan landmarks such as Pictured Rocks, coney dogs and Vernor’s.
The winners will be chosen from the voter choices and announced later this summer. Stickers will be distributed at polling locations during Michigan’s general election, Nov 3.
“When we launched the ‘I Voted’ sticker contest in 2024, we had no idea it would become a cultural phenomenon,” Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said in a June 1 release. “The sticker contest is back for 2026, and it’s your chance to pick this year’s winner.”
In 2024, there were more than 480 submissions, and more than 57,700 voters selected the nine winners, according to the release.
How to make your choice in the ‘I voted’ process
You can vote by visiting the “I Voted” sticker webpage where a public voting tab then opens a voting form. Residents are required to enter an email address to browse then vote.
There are 30 entries in each of the three categories. Voters can choose up to three in each.
At 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, the voting will close. Winners will be chosen from the top public voting choices.
The winning stickers and their artists will be announced in late summer and will receive special recognition from the Michigan Department of State. The stickers will be dispersed to local election clerks for the November Election.
