Howell junior Jack MacGregor finished sixth in the state Division 1 cross country finals on Nov. 1 and appears primed for an outstanding outdoor track and field season.
The “outdoor” season technically began indoors for the Highlanders on Wednesday, March 18 at the Saginaw Valley State University Indoor Invitational on the first day of spring competition in Michigan.
MacGregor finished first out of 76 runners in the Division 1-2 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 23.25 seconds. That was within 0.19 seconds of his personal best set at The Barnyard Invitational last April 25.
Over the winter, MacGregor won the state indoor championship in the 3,200 with a time of 9:22.95 on March 1 and was 14th at New Balance Nationals Indoor in the 5,000 in 14:48.39. He ran 9:10.24 in the 3,200 on Feb. 21, lowering his personal best of 9:13.24 set outdoor at last year’s state meet.
Howell’s Krystian Kubicz was sixth in the 60 hurdles in 8.94 seconds.
In the girls meet, Anna Halliday was seventh in the 1,600 in 5:27.41 and Brooke Wallace was eighth in the 800 in 2:26.67 for Howell.

Also scoring for the Eagles were Emma Storm, Gracie Kastamo, Ellie Curtis and Mallory Frantti.
“Overall, it was a good game,” Hartland coach Andrew Kartsounes said. “We scored consistently throughout and put a lot of offensive pressure on. We gave up a goal, but we’ll be working on cleaning that up and build from there.”
