Each month, the Allegan County Health Department inspects restaurants, schools and other facilities for unsafe food practices.
Adhering to proper safety practices is critical to preventing foodborne illness and promoting public health. ACHD recently completed an online portal for viewing those reports, available at allegancounty.org/health/environmental-health/food.
The Sentinel is sharing “priority” violations — those that could “directly lead to contamination of food or increase the risk of transmitting a foodborne illness” — from Holland, Hamilton, Saugatuck, Douglas and Fennville in the month of June, as well as corrective measures taken.
The Sentinel will also report on “priority foundation” violations — ones that could lead to a priority violation. The health department notes “core” violations, but The Sentinel will only report on those if there’s a significant accumulation in a single eatery or if that eatery also has more serious violations.
