HOLLAND – When Camryn Nadig moved up to No. 1 singles at Holland Christian, she knew she would rise to the challenge – because tennis meant so much to her.
That mindset led Nadig to be able to continue her career after high school.
The Maroons senior has committed to play tennis at Calvin University.
College tennis wasn’t always on Nadig’s radar, but as she continued to get better, so did the opportunities.
“When I initially started my college search, I wasn’t specifically looking for an opportunity to play tennis in college. As my senior year went on though, I really started feeling like I didn’t want to give up tennis, because it has meant so much to me,” Nadig said. “Calvin was already one of my finalist schools, and when Calvin’s coach (George) Rodriguez contacted me offering this opportunity, the pieces came together for me to choose Calvin.”
As a senior at Holland Christian, Nadig has gone through all the layers of being on a team, now the senior leader and No. 1 singles player. Now, she gets a chance to embrace that process again – something that keeps her going.
“I have always especially loved being a part of the team during my years playing tennis at Holland Christian, so the thought of going to Calvin and also getting to continue my tennis journey is really exciting,” Nadig said. “I am looking forward to this opportunity to not only enter a rigorous program to help further grow my tennis skills, but to also continue being a part of a team which has been one of my favorite experiences as a player. The friendships I have developed through tennis are as meaningful as playing the game itself and I am really excited to join my new teammates at Calvin in the fall.”
But first, Nadig has some work to do.
“Before I get to the college level, I am hoping to improve on my serve game, specifically adding more power to both my first and second serve,” she said. “Also, my net game as I hope to play some doubles in college as I have spent the majority of my high school tennis career in singles.”
