Two school-related proposals, both operating millage renewals, were approved by voters in Hillsdale County on May 5, according to unofficial results.
The renewals were approved for Hillsdale Community Schools (56.76%) and North Adams-Jerome Public Schools (64.99%). All vote tallies remain unofficial until reviewed by the Board of Canvassers.
Hillsdale Community Schools received 785 votes in favor and 598 opposed. The five-year operating millage renewal will allow the district to continue levying up to 18 mills on non-homestead properties from 2027 through 2031, required to receive the state’s full per-pupil allowance.
The district estimates the levy will collect approximately $3.2 million in 2027.
North Adams-Jerome Public Schools received 245 votes in favor and 132 opposed. The four-year operating millage renewal will allow the district to continue levying up to 18 mills (listed at 18.2245 mills to protect from possible rollbacks under the Headlee Amendment) on non-homestead properties from 2027 through 2030.
The district estimates the levy will collect approximately $864,562 in 2027.
