An active volunteer at Hartland Consolidated Schools has been appointed to the HCS Board of Education.
Trustees voted 6-0 during a special meeting July 1 to appoint Danielle Custodio to the seat vacated by former Board President Meghan Glabach, who resigned in June for an out-of-state opportunity. Custodio will serve until the November 2026 election.
“I’m honored to have been appointed to the Hartland Consolidated School Board and am grateful for the opportunity to serve our students, families and community,” Custodio told The Daily.
“I am committed to supporting academic excellence, school safety, fiscal responsibility and strong school-community partnerships. I look forward to working collaboratively with fellow board members to ensure that HCS continues to thrive.”
Custodio is a mother of two — including a recent graduate and a current student. She and her husband moved to Michigan in 2013, according to the district.
Custodio currently works with school districts to support curriculum development and implementation, according to HCS. She has a professional background in education and instructional support.
At HCS, Custodio has contributed to Motor Moms, the Highly Capable Program, Football and Cheer Boosters and the Gold Out Committee.
She was among six candidates interviewed for the vacant board seat during a special meeting June 23. In her interview, Custodio said her top three priorities are safety, student and teacher retention, and opportunities for students.
“Hartland Schools has done a lot for my family, and my children have flourished,” Custodio said during her interview.
The board met for about 10 minutes Tuesday to appoint Custodio. She was nominated by Trustee Jeff Campbell and received support from Treasurer Greg Keller. There were no other nominations.
Trustees thanked the other candidates who interviewed for the position, hoping they would stay involved in the district.
“Thanks for your time, your interest, your passion and your willingness to step into a public interview,” said Vice President Kristin Coleman. “It’s not easy. I know I’ve been there, a couple of us (on the board) have been there, and it’s no fun. You’re very much appreciated.”
Custodio will join the board for an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 21.
