Golfweek recently ranked the best public access courses in each state and named Bath Township’s Eagle Eye one of the top 20 you can play in Michigan.
Arcadia Bluffs, in northwest Lower Peninsula, and Greywalls, near Marquette in the Upper Peninsula, topped the list, but you can find great golf in every corner of the state, according the Golfweek ranking.
Eagle Eye, part of the venue that includes Hawk Hollow, Timber Ridge, Woodside Golf Course, The Falcon and Little Hawk, ranked eighth in Michigan.
The course has received numerous accolades over the years by such publications as Golf Advisor, Golf Digest, and Michigan Golf, among others.
Chris Lutzke, in collaboration with Pete Dye, designed the links-style golf course with of five sets of tees that stretches to 7,300 yards.
In 2016, Eagle Eye was the host to the 105th Michigan Amateur and the course will host the event again this year from June 29 to July 3.
The course also has hosted the 2020 men’s NCAA regional and 2023 event, with Michigan State University hosting.
The course’s rates run from $65 for nine holes during the week to $160 with a cart on weekends — pricey, perhaps, but well below the maximum rates of Arcadia Bluffs ($285), Greywalls ($235) and Forest Dunes ($215).
Golfweek’s Best was created by the magazine’s nationwide network of raters. The hundreds of members of our course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses and rate them on 10 criteria on a points basis of 1 through 10.
They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce all of Golfweek’s Best course rankings.
“The courses on this list allow public access in some fashion, be it standard daily green fees, through a resort or by staying at an affiliated hotel. If there’s a will, there’s a tee time – no membership required,” Golfweek writer Jason Lusk said.
