Girls basketball roundup: Ionia, Olivet, Charlotte, St. Patrick among winners

IONIA 51, ST. JOHNS 44

IONIA — Tessa Lemke notched a game-high 16 points and added eight rebounds and two steals to lead the Bulldogs to a nonleague home win over St. Johns. Avery Hoppough picked up 13 points and snagged five steals, Selina Stalker finished with 10 points and nine rebounds and Logan Thomas added eight points for Ionia. Rachel Jackson tallied a team-high 13 points, Abby Tisdale had 10 points and Rowan Matice chipped in nine points for the Redwings.

OLIVET 46, BATTLE CREEK PENNFIELD 30

BATTLE CREEK — A 17-4 run in the second quarter propelled the Eagles to a nonleague road victory over Battle Creek Pennfield to open the season. Ava Myers scored a team-high 10 points, Kenzie Lake finished with eight points and Magan Priesman, Aly Priesman and Carlee Martin each chipped in seven points for Olivet.

CHARLOTTE 44, POTTERVILLE 41

POTTERVILLE — Peyton Howarth made five 3s while finishing with 21 points to help the Orioles outlast Potterville for the nonleague road victory, Braelyn VanAlstine scored eight points and Payton Jobson and Avery Silvas tacked on six points each for Charlotte. Aubrey Gasch notched a team-best 19 points and Remmi Lienerth added on 17 points for the Vikings.

PORTLAND ST. PATRICK 40, CAPITAL HOMESCHOOL 33

PORTLAND — Mattie Honsowitz led all scorers with 21 points, nine rebounds and two blocks to help guide the Shamrocks to a home victory over Captial Homeschool. Gracelyn Rockey notched 10 points, four rebounds and three steals, Macie Smith hauled in five rebounds and Lily Sandborn snagged four steals for Portland St. Patrick. Lainey Grihorash led the Chariots with a team-high 12 points.

BATH 70, FULTON 28

MIDDLETON — Anna Poppema finished with a game-high 19 points and grabbed three steals to help the Bees notch a nonleague road win over Fulton. Africa Beltran picked up 17 points and five steals, Addilyn Duflo scored 14 points and dished out three assists and Faith Hughes added on seven points for Bath. Dayten Lambert tallied a team-high 12 points and Kalyn Duflo chipped in seven points for the Pirates.

LAINGSBURG 45, LESLIE 29

LESLIE — Alyssa Wing picked up a team-best 11 points for the Blackhawks in a nonleague home defeat to Laingsburg. Hailey Creigher finished with six points and Haizy Haindel tacked on five points for Leslie.

BELDING 59, LAKEWOOD 46

BELDING — Liz Markwart picked up a team-high 20 points for the Vikings in a nonleague road defeat to Belding. Ana Grant finished with 18 points for Lakewood.

FRANKENMUTH 48, PORTLAND 46

PORTLAND — Lilly Thelen scored 18 points for Portland as the Raiders came up just short in a nonleague loss to Frankenmuth. Leigha Roberson tallied 11 points and Summer Stopczynski added nine points for Portland.

CORUNNA 39, LINDEN 30

LINDEN — Audrey Miller and Rachel Steinacker each finished with a team-high 10 points to lead the Cavaliers to a road victory over Linden. Kylie Reed and Kaylee Owens each added six points for Corunna.

FENTON 47, OWOSSO 43

FENTON — Danica Dwyer notched a team-best 24 points and dished out five assists for the Trojans in a narrow loss to Fenton. Audri Hrncharik finished with eight points and had five steals for Owosso.

MOUNT PLEASANT 39, ALMA 35

MOUNT PLEASANT — Savannah Beery and Payton Penner each had seven points for Alma in a nonleague loss to Mount Pleasant.

OKEMOS 65, EVERETT 7
