Detroit — To celebrate National Donut Day on Friday, famed Detroit brand Dutch Girl Donuts will share a sneak peek of its forthcoming second location Friday morning.
Stop by the lobby of the new space at 2820 E. Grand Blvd. between 8 and 10 a.m. Friday to get a first look. Announced in February, the second location is set to open this spring but has not yet debuted.
Each customer can have two free doughnuts while supplies last. Pre-packaged boxes of a dozen assorted Dutch Girl Donuts will be for sale at $20 each so you can celebrate National Donut Day with your family, friends or co-workers.
“This is a celebration of Detroit, tradition, and the incredible support our customers have shown us over the years,” said Dutch Girl Donut owner Paddy Lynch in a statement. “We couldn’t imagine a better day to show off the new space than National Donut Day.”
The building is home to Howrani Studios, a family-owned photography business that will remain at that address. Once open, the new Dutch Girl will sell doughnuts baked at the original location at 19000 Woodward that dates back to the 1940s.
Lynch, who is also a funeral director with the family business, Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, purchased Dutch Girl Donuts and took over the building in November 2023. Before reopening in 2024, he made improvements and added some new equipment, but kept the recipes and even some staff members.
Last summer, Lynch took the keys to the historic Dakota Inn, which had been run by the Kurz family since 1933. He also owns and operates the historic Schvitz Health Club in Detroit, near the second Dutch Girl Donuts location. It was his friend Ara Howrani who first introduced him to the historic bathhouse that he bought in 2017.
