Future Michigan State center drafted in the first round of NHL Draft

Michigan State hockey has had a great night in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft first round. The Spartans have had four selections in the first round. After Chase Reid, Nikita Klepov and Tommy Belchetz have been picked in the first round, Jack Hextall has been selected No. 30 by the Calgary Flames.

Hextall will be joining Michigan State in 2026-27, coming from the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound center from Rolling Meadows (IL) has scored 28 goals with 64 assists in his USHL career.

Hextall is expected to center the third line for Michigan State this upcoming season.
