A former Michigan State football high-level staffer is reportedly heading to a Big Ten rival for his next gig.
Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports has reported that Wisconsin is set to hire former Spartans staffer Darius Hicks as their next director of scout and player personnel. Hicks served in a similar role at Michigan State for the last three seasons as the director of scouting.
According to Hicks’ profile on Michigan State’s team site, he spent one season (2022) as the assistant defensive backs and cornerbacks coach at Southeast Missouri State prior to joining the Spartans staff. He also coached three seasons at his alma matter — Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa — as a defensive backs coach from 2019-2021) before heading to Southeast Missouri State.
It’s unclear if Hicks was able to remain with the Spartans under the new coaching staff led by head coach Pat Fitzgerald. The Spartans currently don’t have a director of scouting on their staff, but that could be a position they are moving away from in reconstructing the new staff.
