A former Michigan State defensive lineman is getting a shot with the local professional team.
Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reported on Friday that former Spartans defensive lineman Raequan Williams is getting a tryout with the Detroit Lions. Williams starred for the Spartans from 2016 to 2019, and has spent some time in the NFL since leaving college.
Williams last played in an NFL game in 2021 when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles. He has played in seven career NFL games, recording seven tackles and one sack in those appearances.
While at Michigan State, Williams played in 50 games where he was often an impact player. He ended his career with 160 tackles, 11.5 sacks, eight passes defended and three forced fumbles.
Williams is originally from Chicago, Ill. so the Lions aren’t his hometown team. But this is still fun to see for Spartans fans who are also supporting the local Detroit Lions. Hopefully, Williams can make a good impression during his tryout and earn an invite to training camp later this summer.
