A former Spartans defensive lineman star is getting another crack in the NFL — this time with the local team.
The Detroit Lions announced the signing of former Michigan State defensive lineman Raequan Williams following a minicamp tryout with the organization. Williams starred for the Spartans from 2016 to 2019, and has spent some time in the NFL since leaving college.
Williams last played in an NFL game in 2021 when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles. He has played in seven career NFL games, recording seven tackles and one sack in those appearances.
While at Michigan State, Williams played in 50 games where he was often an impact player. He ended his career with 160 tackles, 11.5 sacks, eight passes defended and three forced fumbles.
Williams was one of a few former Spartans signing with NFL teams on Monday, joining wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. and linebacker Jordan Turner. Foster signed with the Seattle Seahawks, while Turner signed with the Denver Broncos.
