It’s Saturday, and that means another Michigan State football double-digit loss.
The Spartans got off to a fast start, but once again were steamrolled, this time by the Indiana Hoosiers. The Spartans held a lead in the second quarter but then surrendered 31 unanswered points en route to a 38-13 defeat on Saturday.
The game started off with Michigan State looking like a team that may be able to contend with the top five Hoosiers. The Spartans picked up points on each of its first two drives, including a 15-yard touchdown reception by Nick Marsh halfway through the second quarter for a 10-7 lead. However, from there it was all Indiana, with the Hoosiers scoring the next 31 points to pull away for the dominant victory.
It was the Spartans’ defense that failed to compete on Saturday, giving up scores on each of the Hoosiers’ five first possessions of the game. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Michigan State finally picked up a defensive stop on a turnover on downs, but the game was already out of reach anyways.
With the loss on Saturday, Michigan State has now dropped four straight games and sits at 3-4 overall and 0-4 in Big Ten play. The Spartans haven’t won in over a month, and each of their four losses have been by double digits.
Michigan State will return home next week for its annual in-state rivalry game against Michigan. Kickoff time and TV details for next week’s matchup at Spartan Stadium will be announced on Sunday.
