Econo Lodge homicide court hearing delayed over autopsy report

A probable cause conference for homicide suspect Mark Holmes, 46 of Toledo, was adjourned a fourth time during an appearance in Monroe County District Court on Thursday, May 21.

The reason given by Holmes’ attorney, Ben Gonek, was because they hadn’t yet received the autopsy of the alleged victim, Cazz Vinson. Gonek argued that he and Holmes would need a complete copy before they proceeded with the case. Initially, Holmes wanted to set a date for a preliminary exam, but changed his mind after speaking with Gonek.

Another probable cause conference was scheduled for June 11 at 2:30 p.m.

Deputies were called to a disturbance at the Econo Lodge, 6500 E. Albain Road, shortly before 5 a.m. March 28.

Three people were found in a room. One of them, identified by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office as Cazz Vinson, 46, was unconscious. The Monroe Charter Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance attempted life-saving measures, but Vinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Holmes is being held on a $500,000 bond.
