A Michigan Department of Transportation project to improve safety on I-94 Business Loop at Ravenswood Road could temporarily close a section of the Bridge to Bay Trail for about two months in 2027.
MDOT announced plans to invest about $338,000 in the project, which is still in the design phase. Work would include adding left-turn lanes in both directions of the I-94 Business Loop in Port Huron and Marysville, with officials citing safety and crash reduction as key goals.
As part of the project, nonmotorized access to the Bridge to Bay Trail near Ravenswood would be closed during construction. MDOT said the closure would be temporary, lasting approximately two months.
The department is also seeking public input as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966, which requires agencies to consider the effects of projects on publicly used parks, recreation areas and trails.
Residents can submit feedback online or by contacting MDOT directly through Sept. 8, 2025, to share input and address concerns about the proposed temporary trail closure.
Construction on the project is currently anticipated for summer 2027.
