The Indian River Women’s Club earned $15,000 on Monday, June 1 during the Consumers Energy Foundation’s “Put Your Town on the Map” pitch competition at Crystal Mountain.
The club placed in second among the 10 finalists, securing the grant funding for a community improvement project focused on enhancing DeVoe Beach. According to the club’s announcement, the project includes the addition of accessible seating and picnic areas, ADA beach access enhancements, sustainable site furnishings and family-friendly gathering spaces that are “designed to make the beach more welcoming and accessible for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities.”
“This award recognizes the strength of small rural communities working together to improve the places that bring people together,” representatives of the Indian River Women’s Club said in the announcement. “DeVoe Beach is more than a park — it’s part of the identity of our community.”
The grant funding will go towards the next phase of improvements planned for DeVoe Beach in coordination with ongoing Tuscarora Township park improvement efforts.
