Detroit's WWJ switching to ABC News Audio as CBS News Radio shuts down

Detroit’s WWJ-AM (950) and other Audacy all-news and news/talk stations will receive national and international news coverage from ABC News Audio instead of CBS News Radio as part of a new affiliation agreement, a source familiar with company discussions said Thursday.

The move comes as CBS News Radio is in the process of its previously announced shutdown this week. After Friday, CBS News Radio will stop providing its service to its 700 affiliate stations.

The ABC News content, which will include top-of-the-hour updates and breaking news coverage, will replace the content CBS provided, according to the source.

The transition means uninterrupted access to national and international news content, the source said, adding that it will not impact local newsroom staffing or local programming commitments.

Existing ABC affiliates, including 1010 WINS in New York and KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia, will continue their longstanding relationships with ABC News Audio.

News of the CBS News Radio shutdown came in March. CBS had sold its own radio stations in 2017, but continued to offer hourly network newscasts to affiliate stations.
