Detroit Lions place OT Gio Manu on nonfootball injury list

The Detroit Lions added offensive tackle Gio Manu to the nonfootball injury list after practice Wednesday, July 29.

Manu took second-team reps at left tackle Wednesday during the Lions’ 11-on-11 period on a line that included Miles Frazier, Michael Niese, Mason Miller and Larry Borom.

A fourth-round pick out of the University of British Columbia in 2024, Manu has played sparingly the past two seasons and is fighting for a job as the Lions’ fourth tackle behind Penei Sewell, rookie first-round pick Blake Miller and Borom.

He also played some guard this offseason.

The Lions placed left guard Christian Mahogany on NFI and safety Christian Izien on the nonfootball illness list Tuesday, July 28, before the start of camp.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said Mahogany should return in “a couple days” from his undisclosed injury and Izien could be ready to go by Friday as he returns from the flu.

Devin Cochran and Colby Sorsdal are among others vying for the No. 4 tackle job.
