Detroit City Distillery partners with Bees in D releasing a limited-edition spirit

Detroit City Distillery is releasing a limited-edition spirit with sweet and hot flavor.

The Eastern Market distillery on Friday will launch its Hot Honey Bourbon, crafted with Bees in the D honey, a local spot that places hives across the state and on rooftops, turning them into pollinator sanctuaries.

Online sales of the small batch Hot Honey Bourbon begin at 8 a.m. Once ordered, customers can pick up the bourbon starting at 4 p.m. on Friday at the Detroit City Distillery Tasting Room in Eastern Market.Sales of Bees in the D Hot Honey will also be available online at 8 a.m., with pickup at the distillery.

Bottles of Hot Honey Bourbon are $60.

The distillery describes the bourbon as starting out “smooth with honey and bourbon sweetness,” and finishing with “a satisfying kick of heat,” according to a news release.

At the tasting room launch event, Bees in the D will be onsite with samplings of its honey as well as selling local products. The first 75 guests get a slice of Mootz Pizzeria’s Bee Sting Pizza. There will also be specialty cocktails featuring Hot Honey Bourbon at the tasting room bar.

Detroit City Distillery’s first collaboration with Bees in the D was in 2019 with its Honey Bourbon made with honey harvested from hives atop the distillery’s historic building in Eastern Market.

“It quickly became a staple in our lineup, and we’re thrilled to offer this new hot honey iteration now,” J.P. Jerome, co-owner of Detroit City Distillery, said in a news release. It’s got the perfect balance of smooth bourbon sweetness and just the right amount of heat — a special kick for cocktails or for anyone who likes their bourbon with a little extra fire.”

Detroit City Distillery is known for its award-winning small-batch artisanal bourbon, whiskey, rye, gin, and vodka made using many locally sourced ingredients at its facility in the Eastern Market area. To order, visit detroitcitydistillery.com.
