City Institute celebrates 20 years with Thursday night party

The City Institute has taken more than 160,000 people on a tour of Detroit since it was founded in 2006.

The organization aims to help provide Detroiters and visitors with a deeper understanding of the city’s past and present so it can have the best future possible.

Jeanette Pierce and her team are celebrating the group’s 20th anniversary with a party at Firebird Tavern in Greektown. The Thursday evening bash includes appetizers, drinks, music and a chance to network and celebrate Detroit and the City Institute.

“This milestone is about more than looking back. It’s about celebrating the relationships, collaboration, and community spirit that continue to move Detroit forward,” said Pierce in a press release. “For 20 years, our work has been grounded in helping people connect to place and to each other, and that mission feels more important than ever.”

Pierce and the City Institute offer private and public tours of the city, leadership programs, speaking engagements and other resources, like their restaurant and bars checklist, which has every single one of the city’s watering holes and dining destinations listed.
