When is cherry picking season?
The season typically begins at the end of June and lasts until mid-July, depending on weather conditions.
How are the cherries looking this year?
According to Gavin Orchards in Coopersville, cherries in West Michigan were delayed in ripening due to a lack of rain and cooler weather. Crane Orchards in Fennville announced this year’s crop is light, and recommends heading out to u-pick as soon as possible.
Where to pick cherries near Holland
There’s no shortage of spots to get fresh cherries across West Michigan. Here are some of our go-to options near Holland:
Gavin Orchards: This orchard in Coopersville offers a variety of fresh produce, including cherries. The season begins July 2 at 16495 40th Ave. The farm will remain open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays with pre-picked sweet cherries ($3.75 per pound) and u-pick sweet or sour cherries ($2.50 per pound) while supplies last.
Crane Orchard: The farm at 6080 124th Ave. in Fennville will open for u-pick cherries ($2.90 per pound) July 2 and July 4 at 10 a.m. Visitors can select summit cherries July 2 and all varieties July 4. Due to limited supplies, Crane suggests calling 269-561-8651 the day you plan to visit for last-minute updates.
