A new book about Charlevoix’s maritime identity and history is set to debut on Saturday, Aug. 1 during a book launch event at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor.
“The City on Three Lakes: The Maritime History of Charlevoix & the Surrounding Region” is the Charlevoix Historical Society’s latest published work. It features more than 600 pages and over 875 images. It took more than four years to bring the book to life.
The 4 p.m. event will be led by area author Charles Eisendrath, who will moderate an on-stage conversation with lead authors David Miles and Ole Lyngklip. They will also be joined by the editorial and creative team for the book, including photographer John Doskoch, curator Sierra Laddusaw of the University of Michigan’s Clements Library, Odawa/Anishinaabe historian Eric Hemenway, Jen Wahi of Mission Point Press and leaders from the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council.
Proceeds from ticket and book sales will support the Charlevoix Historical Society’s Museum at Harsha House.
A limited number of copies will be available for purchase at the event. Guests can also pre-order a copy when registering to attend. General admission tickets are $25 and can be purchased at greatlakescfa.org/events/detail/the-city-on-three-lakes.
