Capuchin Services Center temporarily closed after rain damage

The Capuchin Services Center located at 6333 Medbury is closed on Monday, Sept. 22, and Tuesday, Sept. 23, to repair water damage caused by storms last week.

The director of social services for Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Brother Fred Cabras, said they are assessing damage day by day.

“There is a possibility the services center could be closed the rest of the week, but we just don’t know yet,” Cabras said.

Cabras said about 5 pallets worth of food were damaged from water, as well as damage to ceiling tiles, light fixtures, computer systems, plus boxes and bags storing food and clothes.

“Unfortunately, lots of folks will go without food,” Cabras said.

Although the building will be closed, Cabras said a drive-up pantry will be available in the parking lot of the services ecnter at 6333 Medbury on Monday, Sept. 22, and will potentially be open more days this week. He said the Gleaners Community Food Bank helped supply food.

A post on the Capuchin Soup Kitchen Facebook page said Meldrum and Conner Community centers are serving meals on their regular schedule.
