Brighton golfer Adam Forcier is shooting in 60s regularly

BRIGHTON — Adam Forcier has cracked the code when it comes to shooting rounds that are merely dreams for most high school golfers.

The Brighton senior shot in the 60s for the third time this season and under par for the fourth time when he fired a 69 during the Kensington Lakes Activities Association’s postseason tournament on May 28 at Kensington Metropark Golf Course.

The round lowered his average to 73.4 for 11 18-hole rounds, which ranks him 17th in Michigan.

He also had a 67 at The Derby at Polo Fields Golf and Country Club on May 8, 68 at the Arcadia South Invitational on April 26 and a 70 at the first KLAA tournament on April 23.

“It’s really built my confidence to know I can come out here and shoot under par any day,” said Forcier, the Livingston Daily’s Athlete of the Week. “I know how to do it. You have to play the game really simple, hit fairways, hit greens. If the putts drop, you’re probably going to shoot in the 60s.”

That was the template for his latest sub-70 round, which gave him the overall KLAA championship with a 36-hole total of 139.

“It was pretty slow,” he said. “I was taking it nice and easy out there. I was hitting a lot of greens, making two-putts. It was pretty simple.”

Even hitting a shot into the rough on No. 2 didn’t derail his round early.

“I punched it out in front of the green,” he said. “I didn’t make a great chip. I made a two-putt for par. I didn’t get too mad about that shot. I just knew I was out there for the team and to keep fighting throughout the whole round.”

Two days earlier at regionals, Forcier tied for seventh with a 74 to help Brighton win the team championship.

Forcier has taken more than two shots off an average of 75.55 that led Livingston County last season and made him the county’s Golfer of the Year.
