Brandon Strong wins GOP primary for Michigan's 78th House District

Ben Ambrose will represent the Democratic Party for Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District in November, according to unofficial election results.

Ambrose (44.3%) defeated Jamie Hill (42.3%) and Clyde Welford (13.3%). He will face U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar on Nov. 3.

Ionia County voters participated in at least two other multi-county races Aug. 4, including Republican primaries for Michigan’s 78th House District and 33rd Senate District.

78th House District

Brandon Strong earned 50.25% of the vote Aug. 4. The other candidates were Terry Frewen (26.49%), Miguel Pilar (11.73%) and Kaleb Hudson (11.52%).

Strong will face Democrat Rachel Gross on Nov. 3. Gross was uncontested Aug. 4.

33rd Senate District

Gina Johnsen earned 32.68% of the vote Aug. 4. The other candidates were Katie DeBoer (28.64%), Joseph Fox (21.19%) and Tom Norton (17.5%). Johnsen currently serves as the representative of Michigan’s 78th House District.

She will face Democrat Stan Opal on Nov. 3. Opal was uncontested Aug. 4.

91st House District

Two candidates ran unopposed for the 91st House District on Aug. 4, including State Rep. Pat Outman and Democrat Frank LaFata.

93rd House District

Two candidates ran unopposed for the 93rd House District on Aug. 4, including State Rep. Tim Kelly and Democrat Serenity Hope Salak.

18th Senate District

Two candidates ran unopposed for the 18th Senate District on Aug. 4, including State Sen. Thomas Albert and Democrat Anthony Pennock.
