After more than five years serving Asian cuisine and sushi, Zao Jun in Bloomfield Hills has permanently closed.
A Facebook post on Monday, Nov. 17, announced the restaurant’s closing, thanking customers who supported the establishment over the years and stating something new will take its place.
Located in a strip mall on Telegraph Road and a few doors away from a Nino Salvaggio store, the restaurant is under new ownership, and an “entirely new concept is forthcoming.
“Renovations begin immediately, and the space will reopen refreshed, reimagined, and ready to serve the neighborhood in a whole new way,” the post said.
New owner of the Zao Jun space, Ziad Battah, said the new concept will be a Mediterranean-fusion restaurant.
Zao Jun opened in May 2019 under chef Lloyd Roberts and featured a menu of sushi offerings and Pan-Asian cuisine in a casual, family setting.
According to the post, it appears that Zao Jun is not going away completely.
“Follow along for updates as we look to relocate Zao Jun,” the post read.
Zao Jun’s owners also own Adachi in downtown Birmingham.
Blake George, one of Zao Jun’s owners, in an email to the Free Press, said that while they are looking for a new space to relocate, they are shifting their focus to growing the Adachi brand.
