Awakon Federal Credit Union was recently named a Community Enrichment Award winner in recognition of its response to the March 2025 ice storm.
According to Awakon’s announcement, they were selected as the Small Asset Size Winner of the Michigan Credit Union Foundation’s Community Enrichment Award, which celebrates credit unions in the state that exemplify the philosophy of “People Helping People.”
“In the wake of the March 2025 ice storm, Awakon Federal Credit Union demonstrated extraordinary compassion and leadership by providing timely financial relief, supporting employees and opening their branches as places of help for the community,” MCUF stated when announcing the award. “Their response reflects the very best of the credit union mission and a true commitment to people helping people.”
Awakon officials received the award on June 4 in Grand Rapids.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this award from the Michigan Credit Union Foundation,” said Awakon Federal Credit Union President/CEO Scott Pauly in the announcement. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff, board of directors and leadership team, who are deeply committed to serving our members and communities, especially during times of need. As Awakon celebrates 75 years of service, we are proud to be recognized for living out the credit union mission and making a meaningful difference when it mattered most.”
Awakon Federal Credit Union was founded in 1951 and is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Awakon is headquartered in Onaway and has locations in Onaway, Rogers City, Indian River, Wolverine, Gaylord and Petoskey.
