If you have a car you care for, then you are no stranger to auto parts stores. Whether you choose to shop at Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone or O’Reilly Auto Parts, they have products for many makes and models. While the prices can vary, there are some free services that are offered by these stores, Here are some of them:
Battery checkups
While all auto parts stores sell batteries, they can also check the battery currently in your car. If you would like to get the voltage tested, you can ask an employee for a quick test. They will then bring out a voltmeter so they can make sure your battery is operating at the correct voltage levels. If your battery has lower voltage or won’t start at all, they can charge it for you. They can also test your alternator and starter for you.
Diagnosing check engine lights
An unexpected check engine light can catch us all off guard. Before you take your vehicle to a potentially pricy dealership or mechanic, you can take it to an auto parts shop to investigate the problem. They can scan your vehicle with an ODB-II scanner tool that reads codes your ride is sending. They can recommend the part you need to fix the issue or refer you to a professional if the problem is more than you can handle.
Recycle fluids and old batteries
If you change your own oil or transmission fluid, don’t pour it in the garbage. Instead, take it to an auto parts store where they will dispose of it properly. They can also take old car batteries and recycle them. On top of giving them your battery, many stores will give you a $10 in-store credit you can use on your next purchase.
Free loaner tools
Another unique service that auto parts stores offer is the loan-a-tool program. If you are doing some work on your vehicle and there is a specific tool you need but don’t have, a store could lend it to you. They offer tool sets for different parts of the vehicle, including the fuel system, drivetrain, engine, brakes, bearings and several other parts of the car. As long as you return your tools on time and in good condition then it should be free.
Paint mixing and matching
Over time cars can get their exteriors chipped or scratched and will need some paint to touch them up. At O’Reilly Auto Parts and Advance Auto Parts, they offer free paint mixing and matching to go along with your car’s exact paint color.
Installing windshield wipers and batteries you buy from them
If you buy a new set of windshield wipers you can easily install them yourself. But auto parts stores will install them for free if after you purchase a set from them. They can also install new car batteries that you buy from them.
