As the franchise works through OTAs, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown shared his excitement about Detroit’s offseason addition, Greg Dortch.
“I watched Dortch from afar when he was at Arizona, and I love his game. I love the way he plays. I think he’s crafty, he has good moves, he understands the game, and he competes.
“I feel like at the end of the day, you just gotta compete. I feel like you play for us, that’s the biggest thing. Whether you’re getting the ball, whether you’re not, run game, pass game, special teams, just going out there and competing. I think Dortch has that about him,” St. Brown said of the Lions’ free agency wide receiver addition.
Dortch caught 29 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns last year in Arizona, so he will certainly serve as an extra utility receiver this season.
In his six-year NFL career, the 5-foot-7, 180-pound receiver has reeled in 145 catches for 1,310 yards and 10 touchdowns. Dortch spent the past three seasons with Petzing as his OC with the Cardinals, so he will bring an understanding of Petzing’s offense to the Motor City.
But, he also figures to be a factor in the special teams department.
Throughout his career, Dortch has impacted both the punt and kickoff return games. Dortch has 99 career punt returns for 886 yards and 75 kickoff returns for 1,773 yards. With Kalif Raymond signing with the Bears, there’s an opportunity for Dortch to emerge as the primary punt and kickoff return man for Detroit.
Dortch entered the league as an undrafted free agent, signing with the New York Jets in 2019. The Wake Forest product appeared in a pair of games with the Carolina Panthers in 2019. Then, after bouncing around practice squads with the Rams and Falcons, Dortch caught on in the Cardinals’ organization.
