Adrian City Administrator Chad Baugh has announced he will step down after roughly eight months in the role.
Baugh, according to a media release, has accepted a position as court administrator for the 35th District Court in Plymouth. He indicated the move was unexpected, but represents a “meaningful” opportunity.
“The opportunity to serve a court I have partnered with for nearly 30 years is both an incredible honor and a meaningful next chapter in public service,” Baugh wrote in a statement.
Baugh was appointed administrator in 2025. He emphasized the decision to leave was driven by personal considerations, including being closer to family while continuing in public service.
“I have great respect for the people who serve Adrian and for the residents who care deeply about this community,” he wrote. “While transitions can naturally bring disappointment, I believe this is the right decision for my family and for the next phase of my career.”
Before becoming administrator, Baugh most recently served as police chief of Canton Township. At the time of his appointment, officials cited his experience in administration, budgeting and collaboration with public safety and court systems.
During his short tenure, Baugh oversaw day‑to‑day operations and worked with the Adrian City Commission on budget development, strategic planning and organizational restructuring.
Baugh said he’ll remain in his current role during a transition period and will assist with an orderly transfer of responsibilities.
“My intent is to complete this process with professionalism, accessibility, gratitude and respect,” he wrote. “I will always appreciate the opportunity to have served (Adrian) and wish the community continued success.”
Officials have not yet announced a timeline for selecting an interim or permanent replacement.
