Hear stories about the water

The Harbor Springs Area Historical Society will host “Odawa Stories of the Water” at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23 at the museum, 349 E. Main St.

Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians members Mae Wright, Emily Proctor and Jacob Keshick will lead the educational evening and share tribal stories and traditions related to water.

The cost to attend is $15. Register to attend at harborspringshistory.org.

Explore Nature in the Park

The Nature in the Park educational series for children is back this summer in Boyne City’s Old City Park.

The free program is designed for children ages 3-6, but families and kids of all ages can participate. They will be guided through a nature theme each day with fun hands-on activities in the park. The first day will be on Wednesday, June 24, and the theme is “River.” Kids will learn about animals that live in the Boyne River and collect some specimens with nets and jars.

The program runs from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays June 24-July 29, except for the week of July 4. No reservation is needed, but visit charlevoixcd.org for more information.

Go for a nature walk

The Little Traverse Conservancy will lead a moss and lichen walk through the Oden Island Nature Preserve at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24.

Guests will learn all about these special species and their roles in nature.

To register to attend, visit landtrust.org.

Enjoy the circus

The Kingdom of Wonders Medieval Circus is putting on a show at the Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours in Sault Ste. Marie June 23-25.

Performances are at 6 p.m. daily with acrobatics, aerial acts, comedy and more. Admission is free. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis.

Chew on cookies in Mackinaw City

Wednesday, June 24 is Cookie Day at the Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum in Mackinaw City.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., guests will receive free cookies (while supplies last) and learn about the icebreaker’s traditional Mackinaw WAGB-83 cookie recipes.
