Michigan State football has been courting a cornerback from California, and now a decision is coming close to putting an end to the recruitment.
Jaxson Gates, a onetime Syracuse commit, is a defensive back prospect from La Verde (CA) attending Damien High School. He is a 3-star recruit and the No. 48 cornerback in the recruiting class, and has a good host of suitors.

According to a report from 247Sports analyst Blair Angulo, Gates has set his commitment date while naming his top four schools. The commitment will be scheduled for July 8, and he will be deciding between Michigan State, BYU, Missouri and Utah.
As of now, it seems very unlikely that he will end up a Spartan, with the Spartans already holding the commitments of six defensive backs in the 2026 recruiting class.
