One ticket in the Tuesday, July 28, Mega Millions drawing matched every number to claim one of the biggest jackpots in lottery history.
The winning ticket, purchased in Florida was worth $800 million or $344.2 million in cash. The jackpot was the 10th-largest prize in the game’s history.
The winner from Florida has two options: take home a one-time, lump-sum cash payment or receive an immediate payment followed by annual checks, each 5% larger than the previous year.
The last time someone won the Mega Millions jackpot was more than four months ago, when a person from Ohio took home $60 million on St. Patrick’s Day.
The winning numbers on Tuesday were 34, 48, 49, 59 and 70. The Mega Ball was 12.
In addition to the jackpot winner, a New York ticket matched five with a 3x multiplier and an Illinois ticket matched five with a 5x multiplier — claiming $3 million and $5 million.
The next Mega Millions jackpot takes place at 11 p.m. Friday, July 31, and will be worth at least $50 million.
The Powerball jackpot remains unclaimed and will be worth more than $633 million in the Wednesday, July 29, drawing.
The Mega Millions is legal to play in 45 states and Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
