FLAT ROCK — Brandon Hill, a social studies teacher at Flat Rock High School, is in the running for America’s Favorite Teacher. The competition, hosted by Reader’s Digest, gives people the opportunity to vote for their favorite educators in multiple rounds. Hill has found himself in the top three with only a day left of voting, the poll closing on Thursday, April 3.
Hill joined the competition on a whim, thinking it would be interesting and not believing that he would make it as far as he did after putting his voting link on social media.
“I mean, I didn’t know if people would just gloss right over it or not, but I’ve also had people text me every day,” he said.
“So, it’s cool to see friends and family support me and say they’re [voting] every day,” he added.
The prize for the winner is $25,000, a trip to Hawaii, and an assembly at their school with Bill Nye (yes, the Science Guy).

There were two other teachers from Flat Rock High School who were in the running, Andrea Baker and Katrina Coyne, but Baker is no longer in the running and Coyne didn’t reply to inquiries.
